CRAZIEST “LYDIA KO” MOMENTS – LPGA | WSN
Lydia Ko, a New Zealand professional golfer, has made significant strides in the world of women’s golf since turning professional. Born on April 24, 1997, in Seoul, South Korea, Ko moved to New Zealand with her family at the age of four. Her golfing journey began at just five years old when her mother introduced her to the sport, and she quickly rose to prominence, showcasing her talent from a young age. Notably, Ko became the youngest person ever to win a professional golf tour event at the age of 14, a record that highlighted her prodigious talent early in her career.
Ko’s professional career has been marked by numerous achievements, including becoming the youngest-ever winner of an LPGA Tour event at 15. Her success on the tour includes a remarkable 20 LPGA Tour wins, with her 20th victory coming at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in 2024. This win not only solidified her status as one of the top players on the tour but also brought her one step closer to qualifying for the LPGA Tour’s Hall of Fame.
Throughout her career, Ko has received several accolades, including being named the Young New Zealander of the Year in 2016 and being appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2019 New Year Honours for her services to golf. In 2022, Ko clinched the CME Group Tour Championship, securing three wins that season, which contributed to her being named the LPGA Player of the Year for the second time in her career, along with securing the Vare Trophy for the lowest scoring average.
Despite facing challenges, such as a less successful 2023 season, Ko demonstrated resilience and a strong comeback ability, starting 2024 with a win and continuing to compete at the highest levels, most recently finishing runner-up at the LPGA Drive On Championship. This performance was part of her chase for her 21st Tour title, which would earn her automatic qualification into the LPGA Hall of Fame.
