Baz Luhrmann drops exciting Elvis concert footage update

Baz Luhrmann said at the Met Gala that he isn’t ready to let go of Elvis Presley, after helming the 2022 Austin Butler-led film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The director said, “The fans really want to know if all that footage we found in the vaults is going to become a concert film and I’m here to say I think it’s gonna happen.” In October 2023, he posted on Instagram a video with a cardboard box with a Warner Bros. label and “Elvis outtakes box” on the outside.

Never enough Elvis
Luhrmann captioned the post with, “A TCB headlines that I know so many of you have been wanting to hear… it’s true we’ve found reels and reels of never before seen footage of “Elvis On Tour”, and “Thats The Way It Is” stay tuned #tcb #tcbheadlines”

For the uninitiated, TCB means “Taking care of business,” which was Elvis’ mantra of sorts.

The 1970 documentary That’s The Way It Is followed the King of Rock and Roll’s Las Vegas Summer Festival in August of the same year. It was released along with Presley’s 12th album of the same name. Elvis on Tour was another documentary released in 1972 when the star was on his 15-city tour.

Luhrmann told IndieWire previously during the Elvis awards run, “There’s a whole lot of material that adds up to four hours, but I have gone on record now to say not today, not tomorrow, but at some point I would do [it]. Because Austin did his concerts full out. He did all the numbers. Austin just did it and it was an out of body experience to watch him do those full concerts, so one day I will cut those full concerts together.”

However, there hasn’t been a new update on that four-hour cut since that interview. Elvis, released in 2022, was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including best picture and one for Butler for best actor.

I checked Luhrmann’s IMDb page and he doesn’t have any upcoming projects. He could be keeping this under wraps. This could be his way of TCB… taking care of business, just like the King.
