Austin Butler’s role in Masters of the Air was able to make up for his major $1.5 billion missed movie opportunity. Butler is no stranger to the entertainment world and has been working in the industry since 2005. He had smaller roles in shows like Zoey 101 and Hannah Montana before landing bigger spots on The Carrie Diaries and The Shannara Chronicles. His career took off thanks to 2019’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood and 2022’s Elvis. Butler has continued to impress with his acting skills and has shown his versatility through his role in Masters of the Air.

 

 

Released in January of 2024, Apple TV+’s Masters of the Air follows eleven determined and dedicated World War II pilots who are fighting German fighters in a bomber called “The Flying Fortress”. Masters of the Air has received rave reviews, with many critics and audiences commending Butler’s performance. Butler was able to exude natural confidence within the role, portraying the idea that he was made to play a part like this. Not only was this role great for Butler’s resume and for audiences’ entertainment, but it also managed to make up for a huge $1.5 billion lost opportunity.

 

 

Masters Of The Air Gave Austin Butler A Great Pilot Role After Missing Top Gun 2 Audition.

According to Variety, there was a possibility that audiences would see Austin Butler starring alongside Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick. Butler ended up not going to the screen test for Top Gun: Maverick, however, because he wanted to say yes to Quentin Tarantino’s offer to star in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. Though Butler did not get the chance to play a pilot in the blockbuster that was Top Gun: Maverick, he did get the chance to play one later on.

 

 

Masters of the Air provided Butler the opportunity to lend his acting skills to a great pilot role. Butler starred alongside a fantastic cast in Masters of the Air, and the miniseries ended up becoming a major success. Even though he missed the chance to screen test for Top Gun: Maverick, things worked out in the end and Butler got to be in a successful project focused on aviation.

Masters Of The Show Shows Austin Butler Would’ve Been Great In Maverick (But This Was Better)

Butler’s performance in Masters of the Air proves that he would’ve been an excellent addition to Top Gun: Maverick. However, things worked out for the best. If Butler had been cast in Top Gun: Maverick and had he accepted the role, it is possible that he would not have taken on some of the other projects that he excelled in. For example, Butler ended up meeting the casting director for Elvis during the Top Gun: Maverick audition process. It is possible that he would not have been able to take on the iconic role of Presley had he gotten cast in Top Gun Maverick.
