Austin Butler jokingly admits he watched Sex And The City in the bathtub before filming prequel The Carrie Diaries: ‘I was like a middle-aged woman!’

Austin Butler humorously revealed that he watched Sex And The City in the bathtub before tackling a leading role in the short-lived CW prequel, The Carrie Diaries. The Oscar-nominated actor, 31, reminisced on his character of Sebastian Kydd during an interview on the Variety Awards Circuit podcast that aired earlier Friday. The talented star, who was the recipient of a BAFTA for Best Actor on Sunday, expressed that he has, ‘so many fond memories of that time because that was when I first moved to New York,’ per Us Weekly.

He resided in the big apple for two years to film the series, and recalled the excitement he felt to work alongside his co-star, AnnaSophia Robb, and added, ‘everybody in that show, [they were] just so fun to be around…’

The former Nickelodeon actor discussed the preparation for his role, and admitted, ‘I remember having an apartment in New York, I’d take a bath and I’d pop on Sex And The City. I was like a middle-aged woman [with] a glass of wine and always candles.’

The Carrie Diaries aired on the CW network from 2013 until its cancellation in 2014, with Austin playing the character of Carrie Bradshaw’s first big crush and also her on and off boyfriend.

AnnaSophia Robb took on the leading role of the younger version of Candace Bushnell’s beloved character as the Connecticut teenager enjoyed her last years of high school in the 1980s while exploring the bustling city of Manhattan.

At the time of the show’s premiere in 2013, the actor opened up about his character of Sebastian and working on the project.

He had gushed to AfterBuzz TV that, ‘It’s been a great experience,’ and also added, ‘It’s been a good time filming in New York.’

His co-star, AnnaSophia, who recently tied the knot with Trevor Paul earlier last year in September, also has a special place in her heart for the series, and opened up about possibly collaborating with Butler once again to E! News last year in December.

‘We all knew Austin would be a super star when we worked with him,’ the Bridge To Terabithia actress stated.

She continued, ‘He’s a tremendous persona and a dedicated actor. I’m extremely proud of him and it’s always fun to work with friends.’

The blonde beauty also added that, ‘the whole cast and crew of The Carrie Diaries were wonderful people. It was a joy working on that set.’

Austin was around the age of 21 when he was cast in the CW prequel, and when talking to Vanity Fair earlier this month, he opened up about how his ‘craft’ of acting has changed over the years.

‘From the very beginning, when I first got on set, it was just a neat thing that I could do as a 12-year-old kid,’ the actor explained.

‘Then once I started going to acting class and realized there’s a craft behind it, that sort of became this addiction for me. Addiction might be a strong word, but obsession with finding honesty, really.’

Although The Carrie Diaries only went on to air for two seasons, the talented actor has continued to showcase his passion, such as starring in the critically acclaimed films: Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (2019), and most recently, Elvis (2022).

His portrayal of the King of Rock and Roll has earned Austin his first Oscar nomination, and earlier on Sunday, he received a BAFTA for Best Actor in recognition of his role.

During an interview in the winner’s press room after receiving the honor, he gave a heartfelt tribute to the late Lisa Marie Presley, who tragically passed away last month in January after suffering a cardiac arrest.

‘It’s been a really unimaginably tragic time, you know, and grief is a long process,’ the actor emotionally stated, according to Variety.

‘And so my heart and my love was with the Presley family always. I feel honored to have been welcomed into the family. It’s a bittersweet time,’ Butler continued.
