Ottawa Senators fan Brooke Henderson claims her ice hockey background ‘prepared her for golf’

Brooke Henderson is a big Ottawa Senators fan and played ice hockey growing up. She opened up about her love for the game and mentioned that she became a goalkeeper after being inspired by her dad. On Thursday, January 9, the LPGA star attended the Ottawa Senators NHL game against the Buffalo Sabres. Before the game, Henderson spoke to Graham Creech, host of the Senators’ pre-and post-game show on TSN 1200.

Brooke Henderson candidly discussed her love for the game and how she started as a goalkeeper for the Smiths Falls Cubs. “I followed in my dad’s footsteps,” she said. “He was a goalie. It’s been kind of cool to have that bond with him over the years. I loved playing in net and never really played out much. I think I played out twice.

“I did have a hat-trick in one game, which was pretty fun, but I just loved being back there and supporting my team in that way. It’s definitely a mental game back there, and I feel like it really prepared me for golf. I learned a lot from that position.” She further admitted that it had been over 1- years since she last played ice hockey. However, she added that she recently went skating and loved doing it around Christmas time.

Speaking about her ice hockey game growing up, Brooke Henderson said that her technique is quite unorthodox, much like her golf swing. “It’s very unorthodox, but I got the job done. I just loved watching hockey. I watched it all the time and grew up loving the Sens. Being here tonight, around the team and the energy, is amazing,” she added.
