Viktor Hovland pens heartfelt message to Nelly Korda after big season
Nelly Korda had a historic season on the LPGA Tour, and Viktor Hovland congratulated her after it. She is currently competing in the Grant Thornton Invitational, which is an unofficial event. The season has ended, and it closed with Korda winning seven events. Cisco posted a reel on Instagram highlighting Korda’s season, calling it “incredible.” Hovland, who is also one of the brand’s athletes, shared the video to his own stories and added a heartfelt note for her.
Hovland said:
“Congrats to my fellow team Cisco player Nelly Korda.”
Korda had a dominant year. She wasn’t able to close it out with a season-ending win at the CME Group Tour Championship, but still ended as the World No. 1 on the Rolex Rankings. The seven wins she earned included her second major at the Chevron Championship. That victory came in a string of five straight, tying the LPGA Tour record. She made the cut in 13 out of 16 starts in 2024 and had 11 top-10 finishes and a low round of 65.
Nelly Korda opens up on outgoing LPGA Tour commissioner
Mollie Marcoux-Samaan is stepping down from her post as the LPGA Tour commissioner. In January, someone else will take over the role. Until then, she and a group of other executives will look for the next candidate. Nelly Korda was asked about Marcoux-Samaan. She said via Yahoo! Sports: “I’m never going to talk poorly about anyone. I got along really well with Mollie, but I think it’s a great time to capitalize on the trend in women’s sport, and hopefully we do that.”
She was also asked about what she’d like to see in the next commissioner, and she pondered before answering:
“I would have to think about it. Obviously, someone that has had a lot of experience in this field. And someone that knows how to talk to people the right way to get attention and more investment into the game of golf.” Lydia Ko, who had two wins in 2024, agreed with Korda that now is the time to find the right person to lead the LPGA Tour moving forward.
“I think who is the commissioner really depends on where golf is in general. We’re at a very different place on the LPGA now in 2024 to when we were during COVID, and even the time when Mike came along. It just has to be somebody that fits the situation for right now.” Ko added that she believes the LPGA Tour needs to consider women’s sports as a whole. It’s not just golf, but other sports are seeing growth thanks to stars like Nelly Korda, Caitlin Clark, and Angel Reese. Ko wants the next commissioner to be someone who understands the complexities of that dynamic.
