Lydia Ko ‘Thankful’ Towards Husband Days After He Defied Dangerous Odds for His Beloved
One of the best players on the LPGA Tour? Check. Olympic gold medalist? Check. The youngest inductee into the LPGA Hall of Fame? Check. You name it, and Lydia Ko’s resume has it all. While her professional career is truly remarkable, her personal is too, all thanks to his ever-loving and supporting husband, Jun Chung.
Jun Chung, the son of the vice-chairman and CEO of Hyundai Card, and Ko got married on December 30, 2022. The beautiful ceremony took place at the iconic Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul, South Korea. This promise of a lifetime was the perfect way to cap off her incredible 2022 season. She won three LPGA Tour titles that year. Chung was right there when Ko won the 2022 CME Group Championship, earning a record-breaking $2 million—the largest prize in women’s golf at the time.
Chung never misses a chance to be by his beloved’s side. And time and again, Ko shows just how much she appreciates him. Just recently, she posted a sweet photo of the two on her Instagram story, captioning it, “Thankful to you.” She didn’t specify exactly why, but honestly, does she need to? Chung’s actions already speak volumes.
Take the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship in 2024, for example. Despite a bad weather forecast, Chung still flew to Tiburón Golf Club to support Ko. “He actually flew on a red eye and got here this morning.” Ko shared in a post-round interview. “There was a weather alert yesterday saying there was (sic!) high winds and I was like, hey, if it’s dangerous just don’t come. He was like, I got to come.”
Ko is undoubtedly lucky to have someone who not only makes time for her despite a demanding schedule but who’s also willing to go the extra mile—literally—for her. His sacrifices don’t go unnoticed, and it’s clear his support means the world to her.
When it comes to showing love and support, Chung mastered the art. But beyond that, he’s also the kind of partner who shares every joy and every challenge, making him a true partner in every sense. His love sometimes makes Ko feel overwhelmed in the best way and it’s easy to see why.
During the AIG Women’s British Open, he traveled to St. Andrews to cheer her on. While there, he even squeezed in some golf of his own, playing at Dumbarnie Links and braving the rain at Kingsbarns. But it wasn’t the golf that impressed Ko most—it was the sacrifices he made for her.
“I feel bad because he’s having to wake up at 4:00 a.m. with me this morning.” Ko shared in a press conference. “Even if I am the most supportive wife when it comes to his work, I’m probably never going to wake up at 4:00 a.m. for him for his job. I’m very thankful that he’s taking a step back and doing things on my time, and I know that’s not easy, so I’m glad that he’s actually getting to enjoy it.”
For Ko, having a partner like Chung isn’t just heartwarming, it’s a reminder that love truly shows up, no matter the time or place. So, it’s fair to say, that in the game of life, Ko has already won in every way that matters.
