Dallas’ Jordan Spieth reveals ‘No. 1 reason’ behind season-ending wrist surgery

Spieth spent much of Monday providing pointers to junior golfers as part of the ‘Crush It! Cup’ at Brookhaven Country Club.

Wearing a brace on his left arm, Jordan Spieth was in familiar territory Monday.
Spieth, a three-time major winner from Dallas, spent much of his day providing pointers to junior golfers as part of the “Crush It! Cup” he hosted with Invited at Brookhaven Country Club. He also had some time to provide a brief update on his recovery from season-ending wrist surgery.

The golfer underwent a procedure on his left wrist last month after competing in one FedEx Cup playoff event. While answering questions at his youth tournament and fundraiser, Spieth said the recovery would be a 12-week process. For now, much of his injury rehab will focus on staying patient. Spieth also revealed one of the primary factors behind having the surgery. It wasn’t entirely based around golf.

“Really, I would say the No. 1 reason why I ended up getting it done was because it affects my way of life at home,” Spieth said. “Like, when it would dislocate, I would have to get it back in. It would happen when I’m like getting my daughter out of the bath, or putting a sweatshirt on. It’s just so random that it was like — it happened more and more and it wasn’t going to heal itself, based on a number of different docs and scans.”

Spieth added that the procedure meant he could return to doing ordinary things like shooting a basketball, throwing a baseball or playing with his kids. He also feels it will help his confidence levels once he returns to the golf course.

Spieth’s “Crush It! Cup” tournament featured 36 top juniors from Invited clubs nationwide. To earn their spots in the tournament, golfers participated in a three-month-long fundraiser for the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation.

The athletes raised $250,000.
