Chris Evert Gushes Over Ex-Husband Andy for His Heartfelt Support Amidst Her Tough Cancer Battle

“I miss my family time with Andy and the kids,” Chris Evert once said of her ex-husband Andy Mill. The 18-time Grand Slam champion’s history with the former alpine ski racer Mill spans over 18 years, which Evert considers to be the “best years” of her life. They might have split more than a decade ago, but Mill’s presence in her life is still precious for the former tennis player, especially during her tough battles!

On August 21, Evert engaged in a heartfelt conversation with Good Morning America about her fight with ovarian cancer that she had been dealing with over the last couple of years. During the last segment of the interview, the host inquired about her role as a devoted grandmother of James (her son Nicholas’ baby) while showing a picture of the baby.

Delighted to share her experience, the American former player took notice of the family photo but soon spotted her former husband, Mill, in the picture. In a lighthearted jab, the 69-year-old said at first, “Little James, my grandson. There he is. Oh, there is Andy. Good old Andy. Always hanging around these pictures. My ex-husband.”

However, when the host asked her, “He’s been there for you?” Evert’s tone shifted from playful to sincere, revealing the depth of Mill’s impact on her life. “Yes, he has. I’m giving him a hard time,” the former World No. 1 warmly confirmed with a smile. Her acknowledgment highlights the enduring bond they share, transcending their past marriage.

Evert, who has been married three times, tied the knot with Andy in 1988, shortly after her divorce from former tennis player John Llyod. With Mill, the former World No. 1, Evert has three children, but their marriage ended in 2006. But as Evert herself once admitted, “That was 20 years of history.” Now, as Evert navigates through one of the most challenging periods of her life, it seems Mill’s steadfast support for her remains the same.

The American player’s stage 1 ovarian cancer journey is a feud that left her feeling “anxious,” and “shocked.” She fought the disease once in 2022, when Mill came to her rescue as he accompanied Evert to her chemotherapy sessions. Referring to this, the American also shared a sweet message for her former husband on X, writing, “Happy you took me to my second chemo today #Andy; just like old times.” But unfortunately, it returned last year for the second time. Thus began her strenuous sessions of chemotherapy and hospital visits once again!

Luckily, the seven-time French Open champion is cancer-free now. Among many other aspects, Evert is grateful for her “greatest friend’s” support during the challenging times. “Thank you to my incredible sister Clare, my ex-husband/greatest friend, Andy, and my three sons who have been by my side..” she said earlier. However, when it comes to their relationship, Evert still has one regret!

Chris Evert blames “nobody” but herself for her failed marriage with Andy Mill
During an interview with Woman’s Day Magazine in 2010, Chris Evert, who retired from tennis in 1989, shared her candid reflection on the reason behind their marriage. Shortly after her split with Mill, Evert started dating the former golfer, Greg Norman. Although they married in 2008, their relationship came to an end within 18 months. Referring to this, Evert said, “I blame nobody but me for leaving my marriage [to Mill]. But I have been trying to figure out why I crossed that line. What was it in me that I allowed myself to fall in love with another man when I was in a marriage?”

Evert also discussed how she desires to stay single and enjoy her time with her children. “I’m in the best place possible for me – to be living alone this summer with access to my kids and spending time with my sister in such a beautiful setting. This is the first time in many years that I’ve been alone. It’s a time for self-reflection, reading a lot of books, doing yoga and hiking.”

More than a decade has passed since then and now we often see Mill supporting Evert during her cancer treatments. And as Chris Evert continues to inspire fans worldwide, her tribute to Andy Mill reminds us that true support knows no boundaries!
