Viktor Hovland finally lands himself a new swing coach ahead of 2025 season

Viktor Hovland is in Dubai for the Hero Dubai Desert Classic this week, one of the first DP World Tour events of the calendar year. The PGA Tour is back in full swing, but a lot of international stars are in Dubai for this tournament. That includes Hovland, who has debuted a brand-new swing coach at the event.

Hovland and his new coach were seen working on his swing, analyzing how things are happening with his mechanics and his equipment. TJ Yeaton, who has been recognized by numerous outlets as one of the top young instructors in the sport, worked closely with Hovland ahead of the tournament. Hovland broke out in 2023 with the Tour Championship win, but he has yet to build on that promise. He struggled in 2024 and has cycled through some coaches lately. Now, he’s settled on Yeaton for 2025.

Hovland worked with Joe Mayo initially before going separate ways. He eventually reunited with Mayo, but the two had to split again at the end of last season, which has led the Norwegian to Yeaton. The golfer said a couple of weeks ago about his coaching change via SI: “We disagreed a bit about the way forward, what is best for me. I feel that I have learned so much now and have so much competence that I don’t need anyone to hold my hand anymore. It’s always good to have someone to watch what I’m doing, check out the steps I’m taking. So I send some videos to another coach, but he’s more like a consultant. I am the one in charge of my own turn.”

Perhaps this time will be the necessary change for Hovland to get back on track and win tournaments again.
