Reason why Andy Murray’s attitude can help Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic made his debut at the 2025 Australian Open yesterday with Andy Murray in his box, a scene that immediately went around the world. The Serbian and the Scotsman – who faced each other in four different finals at Melbourne Park (all won by Nole) – have just started their collaboration and both seem very happy. The 24-time Grand Slam champion dreams of lifting his 11th trophy at this tournament and achieving yet another titanic feat in his legendary career. The former Scottish champion will try to help him thanks to his long career at the highest level, although this is his first experience as a coach.

The 37-year-old from Belgrade did not play his best tennis in the first round against the young American talent Basavareddy, who put him in serious trouble for a set and a half before suffering a noticeable drop in the second part of the match. The former world No.1 knows very well that he will have to raise his level to have a chance of getting to the bottom of this tournament and hopes that the presence of Murray by his side will give him further motivation. At almost 38 years old, Novak is aware that he no longer has much chance of winning a Major title and AO are certainly one of his best chances.

Murray seemed very calm
During the match between Djokovic and Basavareddy, Murray seemed very calm and cheered Nole on in the most important moments. The two legends talked a lot during the clash and Djokovic seemed more relaxed than in the recent past. Speaking on Eurosport, former WTA star Laura Robson analyzed Andy’s attitude in detail: “I did manage to keep an eye on him. I was even looking at the end to see if he would stay for the interview. He did not. He was out of their pronto. I don’t think he is used to sitting down and watching a match for three hours, which actually he was stretching his back out at the end, it was tough.

I was surprised by how vocal he was. I was surprised to hear come on Novak, keep the energy up and he was even giving some hand signals too. It was more than I thought we were going to get.”
