Fans Mock LPGA Pro’s NHL Adventure as Her Happy Time Gets Ignored Under a Pile of Criticisms: ‘The Only One There’
It’s not a good time to be a Senators fan. On the rink and off the rink the Ottawa-based NHL franchise is undergoing a turbulent time. There is no home comfort either. They lost 4-0 to the Buffalo Sabres at the Canadian Tire Center. In front of 16, 276 home fans of which one was LPGA pro, Brooke Henderson. Unfortunately, she had to endure some of that frustration as well.
Henderson was invited to drop the puck for the ceremonial faceoff. “Hey, Sens fans. I am at the Senators game, and having a great time. Go Sens, go!” said the former major winner with a thumbs up. It didn’t go well, as the Senators endured a humiliating loss against the visitors.
For Henderson, it was a case of just ‘bad timing’. Probably, the clip was recorded sometime earlier. But it was posted as the team was slowly being torn apart by Lindy Ruff’s men. This was the Senator’s first home game in 26 days.
Henderson is from Smith Falls, Ottawa. The Senators partnered with the LPGA icon last year. As part of the multi-year deal, Henderson’s towel and water bottle show the Senators logo. “Growing up, I played hockey, I watched hockey and I always cheered for the Sens, so it feels like a perfect fit.” It might be a perfect fit for Henderson, but for fans, her good luck post was the last thing they wanted to see.
Fans really are in no mood to hear any of that. “Sell the franchise,” one user commented on Instagram. Andlauer officially took ownership only in 2023. And he has been frustrated since then. The team has had trouble with missed draft picks, and horrible form. As recently as last October, Andlauer said, “Someone asked me the other day: ‘Are you having fun?’ I said no! I really appreciate my job, don’t get me wrong, but ‘having fun’ happens when you start winning.”
It hasn’t been that way. Fans are not having fun either. So, when Henderson said she was having a ‘great time’, they were perplexed and then enraged. “Having a great time?” asked one user sarcastically. Another quipped, “Hand her some skates. Maybe she can do literally anything.”
Some even wondered how long fans would put up with shenanigans like this inside the rink. “She gonna be the only one there soon 4-0 first game back is embarrassing.” It indeed is, but then that’s been the case for the past few seasons. The Senators haven’t made it to the playoffs since their magical run in 2017. The Sabres humiliation was just emblematic of everything that’s wrong with the team.
“Every player on the ice tonight should be ashamed they made fans pay to watch that,” vented one fan. As for Brooke Henderson, of course, she wasn’t pleased with the outcome; no fan will be. There haven’t been any comments from her side after the match, however.
