Jordan Spieth Leaks Major ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Secret Days After John Daly’s Accidental Revelation
You’d be lying if you said you didn’t jump out of your seat when a cameo pops up in a film. Well, if you do, Adam Sandler’s much-awaited Happy Gilmore 2 is the package you didn’t know you needed. It is packed with A-list athletes ready to make you grin.
The original Happy Gilmore hit theaters back in 1996. Critics may have been mixed, but golf fans were all in, hungry for more. They are aware of big names reportedly appearing including rappers Bad Bunny and Eminem, plus NFL star Travis Kelce. Kelce’s presence was discussed on his podcast, as Sandler said, “We’re going to have fun. The scene you’re doing is with so many great golfers. It’s going to be amazing. You’re going to be funny as hell.” It seems now we know who the golfers in the scene will be. But what we did not know is that Jordan Spieth will also be there, including others.
Jordan recently let slip the big cameo lineup during an interaction with SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio. When asked if his role in the film is a speaking one, he affirmed and said, “Yeah, it is, if they use it.” Spieth then continued, “I was up there with Rickie. When I was up there, it was Lee Trevino, Nicholas, and Freddie. We had Corey Pavin. In our scene next to me were Ricky, Colin, Xander, and Keegan. It was really fun.”
But it wasn’t just the legendary golfers that made the experience special—it was being part of something so many fans grew up loving. “There were a lot of other guys there, and it was wildly entertaining. I’m interested to see what comes out of it,” Spieth said, before adding with a grin, “I’m not actually sure how much I’m allowed to say, to be honest.”
Spieth, like many of us, grew up as a huge fan of Happy Gilmore. “I was such a fan. Weren’t we all growing up? People who don’t even know golf always ask, ‘Have you seen Happy Gilmore?’” So, when the chance to be in the sequel came up, Spieth didn’t hesitate. “I thought, I’m going to go try and be in it.”
He also shared a bit about working with Adam Sandler, and it’s clear Sandler left a lasting impression. “Adam Sandler was exactly what everyone says about him—the nicest guy, the funniest guy. That comes naturally to him. He’s so involved, so appreciative. It was a really cool experience,” Spieth said.
For Spieth and many others, this isn’t just another movie. It’s a chance to revisit a classic that mixed sports and comedy in the best way possible. With so many legends from both the golf world and beyond, Happy Gilmore 2 is shaping up to be something special. And Spieth’s excitement? Well, it only adds to the anticipation.
Before Spieth let the cat out of the bag, John Daly had already given fans a sneak peek. In a video with OutKick’s Mike Gunzelman, Daly confirmed his role, saying, “I’ve already filmed it already; we’re going to get it done. Then, with a “Shh” sign, he added, “It’s coming out on Netflix maybe in March or April of next year.” Well, Daly, what’s done is done—we’ve got the scoop, thanks to you! With all this buzz and a killer lineup of cameos, golf fans can’t wait to see what Sandler serves up after almost three decades.
What can we expect from Happy Gilmore 2?
Back in September 2022, Adam Sandler stated that he hoped to eventually make a sequel to Happy Gilmore, sharing that he’d been kicking around ideas for the film. One of those ideas? Putting Happy on the senior golf tour. While not every sequel lives up to the hype, this one looks like it’ll keep the original’s quirky, chaotic charm intact. And yes, they even brought back Grandma Gilmore’s house—how’s that for a blast of nostalgia?
If that’s not enough, we’ve got familiar faces making their return. Christopher McDonald is back as the unforgettable Shooter McGavin, and Julie Bowen will reprise her role as Virginia. And of course, Ben Stiller is slipping back into his role as Hal L., while Dennis Dugan, who directed the original, is returning as tour commissioner Doug Thompson.
While the final date is yet to come, John Daly’s statement hints that next year’s March or April could be the film’s landing spot. So, as we wait for another PGA Tour season to tee off, this movie is gearing up to add some extra excitement to next year’s lineup. So are you excited to dive back into Happy Gilmore’s world?
