How Riley Keough Told Mom Lisa Marie About Brother Benjamin’s Death
Riley Keough has opened up about the intense grief her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, experienced following the death of Riley’s brother, Benjamin Keough, who died by suicide in 2020. Riley explained that Lisa Marie was deeply affected by Benjamin’s loss, describing her as “in so much pain” and noting that although her mother passed away from complications after surgery, Riley believed she ultimately “died of a broken heart.”
In an interview, Riley recalled her mother’s struggle to keep going for her family despite the overwhelming sorrow she felt.
Riley and Lisa Marie had found solace in helping others who experienced similar losses. Lisa Marie shared that she received letters from people who were moved by Riley’s public discussions on grief, including one from someone who credited her words with saving their life.
Through these interactions, Riley found strength and a sense of purpose, which also helped Lisa Marie in her journey.
Lisa Marie’s struggles and memories, as well as Riley’s reflections on their family’s losses, are documented in Lisa Marie’s posthumous memoir, “From Here to the Great Unknown,” which Riley completed and released in hopes that it might help others dealing with love, heartbreak, and loss.
