‘We Were Both Going Through a Divorce’- Chris Evert’s Ex-Husband Re-Lives Odd Circumstances Under Which He Met the Tennis Legend for the First Time
Chris Evert and Andy Mill’s 18-year marriage came to an abrupt end in 2006. The marriage fell apart because of Evert’s growing fondness for one of Andy Mill’s best friends, golfer Greg Norman. However, back when the tennis legend and alpine skier married in 1988, things were radically different. At the time, Mill and Evert were head over heels in love with each other.
Mill was the esteemed guest in the latest Wet Fly Swing Fly Fishing Podcast episode, and he spoke at length about how he and Evert met. He also went on to say what made their relationship click in the early days.
It all started in Aspen for Andy Mill and Chris Evert
Colorado’s Aspen is where Evert and Mill’s love affair started. Martina Navratilova also had a role to play in the two meeting each other. In the podcast, Mill said that at the time, Evert “was in Aspen after Christmas”. Mill also revealed that it was Navratilova who “invited Chrissie to come out to Aspen to enjoy a week there before they headed to the Australian Open”.
Mill added, “I met Chrissy at a New Year’s Eve party and we had a lot of commonality”.
According to Mill, the fact that both he and Evert were athletes had a prominent role to play in strengthening their bond. Mill also revealed that at the time, “we were both going through a divorce.” Back then, Mill was on the verge of separation from his first wife.
At the same time, Evert’s marriage with British tennis player John Lloyd was also falling apart.
Skiing became a common interest for the couple
When they met for the first time in Aspen, Mill was busy with the production of a ski show. As a result, he could not pay much attention to Evert. However, after he completed his work, he reconnected with Evert and so their relationship began for good. Skiing emerged as a common interest. Mill said, “We eventually started skiing around a little bit”. He also poked fun at Evert for not being very good at it by saying “She sucked so bad.”
For Mill, it was a shock to know that his wife was in love with friend and golfer Greg Norman in the 2000s. It culminated in a messy divorce in 2006, following which Evert went on to marry Norman in 2008.Evert and Mill had three sons during their time together; Alexander, Nicholas, and Colton.
