Riley Keough says she wants to preserve Elvis Presley’s Graceland: ‘Our family home’

Riley Keough, the granddaughter of Elvis Presley, has taken on the responsibility of preserving the legendary Graceland estate, a family home deeply tied to her legacy. Following her mother Lisa Marie Presley’s death in January 2023, Riley became the sole trustee of her mother’s estate, including Graceland, which Elvis bought in the late 1950s.

Graceland, located in Memphis, Tennessee, holds immense sentimental value for the Presley family and has become a symbol of Elvis’s life and legacy.

Riley has emphasized her desire to continue the preservation efforts that her grandmother, Priscilla Presley, and mother undertook. She sees her role as a steward of this family heritage, ensuring that Graceland remains a place of history and memory for future generations.

Despite facing legal challenges involving her grandmother over the control of the estate, Riley emerged as the sole owner and trustee, bringing an end to the dispute. Her goal is to honor her family’s wishes and preserve Graceland as both a public monument and a personal family space.

Apart from preserving the physical structure of Graceland, Riley is also focused on safeguarding the memories associated with the estate. This includes releasing her mother’s posthumous memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown, which provides an intimate look at Lisa Marie’s life and relationship with Elvis. By completing her mother’s memoir, Riley aims to present a more nuanced and personal side of her mother beyond the public spotlight, ensuring that both Lisa Marie’s and Elvis’s legacies continue to inspire.

Riley, now a mother herself, has expressed her intention to pass on the rich history and legacy of the Presley family to her daughter, Tupelo. She hopes to keep the stories of her famous family alive, not just for the public but for future generations of the Presley lineage.
