With a revised payout distribution, who will take home the coveted $315,000 champion’s prize? Only the future can tell. But for Steve Stricker, the stakes are higher than ever. With a historic feat within reach, can he outlast the competition and answer the call at the 2024 Sanford International?

Will Steve Stricker make history at the 2024 Sanford International?
Steve Stricker returns for his sixth appearance at the tournament. The 57-year-old has a history to remember at the Minnehaha Country Club. In 2018, at the inaugural of the Sanford International event, he came and won the event with a 4-stroke margin. This year, he set his foot on the course as the two-time defending champion. Consequently, if he grabs the trophy, he will become the first golfer to claim a PGA Tour Champions title three times in a row.

Stricker loves to play Sanford International and thinks highly of the course, and arrangements done; “I do enjoy it — they put on a great event here,” Stricker said. “The people come out to support it. It’s a little bit old-school golf you know reminds me of home a little bit you know, we’re not far from there, it’s a great spot, it’s a great town to keep going back to each and every year, and we enjoy our time here for sure.”

Now, as the tournament heats up, it seems Steve Stricker’s quest for a historic three-peat is off to a promising start. His opening score has him well-placed to make a push for the title, but he’ll need to stay focused with Billy Andrade. Andrade led the table with 7 under par, after round one play, 4 strokes ahead of the runner-up Stricker.

Moreover, Ernie Els is also basking for glory that’ll earn him his fourth Tour Championship title of the season. Meanwhile, Bernhard Langer, who finished second in the Ascension Charity Classic, last week is also lurking in the shadows, waiting for his chance to strike.
