Jordan Spieth Wrist Surgery: Concerns About PGA Tour Pro’s Moribund Career Gets Answers

Jordan Spieth is keen on “returning to golf healthy and prepared for 2025!” After shooting a 72 in the final round at TPC Southwind, Spieth’s season came to an end as he was unable to advance further in the playoffs. The golfer was suffering from a lingering issue in his wrist for the whole season that started at the 2023 PGA Championship, and it needed his attention ASAP after his season ended. At this point, Spieth had already decided to undergo surgery.

Before the St. Jude Championship, the PGA Tour pro revealed that he would be opting for surgery to help with the issue in the off-season. After his season was over he went through the process and now is back with a positive update. Recently the golfer shared a post on X captioning “I had a procedure on my left wrist last week, as I had mentioned was the plan. The operation went smoothly and I’m grateful for the exceptional medical team and support of Annie and my family. ”

While talking about it he also revealed that he will be playing in the 2025 season and said “Focused on rest and rehab, and I look forward to returning to golf healthy and prepared for 2025!” Considering the seriousness of the wrist injury, there were worries about whether the golfer would be able to perform at his best in the next season. Nevertheless, it appears that he will be able to, as his wrist won’t be bothering him anymore.

While suffering pain throughout the season, the golfer was still trying to give his best on the greens. He started this year with good performances at tournaments like T3 at the Sentry and T6 finish at the WM Phoenix Open. However, his performance went downhill, and the golfer missed the cut at THE PLAYERS and the Valspar Championship. During the RBC Heritage, it got so bad that he was on the verge of withdrawing, but he did not. Later, he confirmed that his pain is more like a “come-and-go thing.”

So, it’s safe to say the wrist was causing him trouble and he was unable to deliver ideal performances. Despite all that, the 31-year-old was still trying to avoid surgery, but he could not avoid the unavoidable anymore.

During this year’s RBC Heritage, Spieth injured his left wrist by hitting it against the bunker bulkhead during his follow-through, which caused his ECU (extensor carpi ulnaris) tendon to dislocate. Even after that, he said, “It’s not really a surgical thing; it’s a rest thing,” and was trying to avoid the surgery.

Speaking of dislocations, during the Open Championship Jordan Spieth revealed that his tendon had dislocated about 12 times this year. “My tendon essentially dislocates. It’s dislocated about a dozen times since February. When it does, I can’t grip the club. When I get it back in, I’m fine, but my brain is just saying: ‘Don’t do it,” said Spieth.

Although he had to go through the surgery in the end, the golfer is now focused on rest and rehab and looking to bounce back in the next season.
