How Did Scottie Scheffler & His Wife Meredith Meet? Are They Childhood Sweethearts
Don’t let his calm demeanor fool you. For, Scottie Scheffler is one of the best players that the PGA Tour has in its arsenal right now. He wasn’t, however, able to reach this position alone. Enter his family, friends, caddie, and more importantly, his wife, Meredith Scudder! We all know how their story is going right now. But how did all of it start?
The athlete had married his wife back in 2020 after Scheffler proposed to his then-girlfriend. He did so after taking her on a hike to the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve following which she said yes (obviously!). Fast forward a few months to December 4, and they walked down the aisle in the presence of only close friends and family.
Interestingly enough, their story dates back to when the two were in high school. The future-world No. 1 on the OWGR met his future wife at the Highland Park High School. And just as his off-course demeanor, the golfer was a bit shy in approaching Meredith Scudder. But they were able to hit it off as friends for a total of three years.
What changed? Well, future Mrs. Scheffler, apparently, was enamored by the golfer’s low-key and humble attitude. “At the beginning of high school, I always thought he had a super humble ambiance about him,” divulged Meredith in an interview with Golf Digest, “He was just a really down-to-earth guy that doesn’t take himself too seriously.“
The surprise, however, came a few years later. When the two were hanging out together at Scudder’s house, an advertisement was shown on TV portraying Scottie Scheffler’s 2013 Junior Amateur Golf Championship win. Consequently, she was really surprised after which she has been a constant source of support for the golfer, even when they had to make a long-distance relationship work.
Scottie Scheffler and Meredith Scudder’s journey to marriage
After high school, Scottie Scheffler had managed to make his way into the University of Texas while his then-girlfriend entered Texas A&M University. However, the golfer was forced into a long-distance relationship with his girlfriend for a total of four years during which he did a brief internship in Zambia.
Coming back to the present, the couple is happily married with a baby boy named Bennett. The duo welcomed the child back in May before the 2024 PGA Championship. “I had pretty high expectations of what I would feel like,” divulged the pro about becoming a father, “and those are far exceeded. It’s a pretty amazing feeling.”
The two have shared a truly heartwarming journey as they held hands to rise in the ranks of the golf world. And the fans will surely look forward to the journey that they will have in the future as well.
