Emma Raducanu Sparks Outrage as Fans Accuse Her of Shocking Disrespect Towards Andy Murray at the US Open
Emma Raducanu has made the wrong move. At least in the eyes of tennis fans, she has. The Briton is in troubled waters after underrating recently retired tennis star Andy Murray at the US Open. While her comments have likely not stemmed from a place of disliking towards the former World No. 1, fans have slammed Raducanu for her inexcusable admission.
Talking during a press conference ahead of the US Open in New York, Raducanu highlighted that Andy Murray’s retirement had been overshadowed by the “fast-paced” nature of the tennis world. “It doesn’t feel different at all. Tennis is unforgiving in that sense. No matter who you are, it just moves on. Of course…I watched him win this tournament but yeah, it’s fast-paced like life – it’s old news the next day,” Raducanu said when asked about Murray’s retirement.

The tennis world had to endure unsettling news at the Paris Olympics this season. While notable stars showcased impressive performances, there also came Andy Murray’s retirement. The 3-time Grand Slam champion walked away from the sport after a history-making career, scripting his nation’s name on the sport’s map. Following his quarterfinal doubles exit with partner Daniel Evans at the quadrennial event, the British star remembered his career full of glazing accomplishments.
“I gave as much as I could to the career. There are things that I look back on and wish that I could have done differently, but it’s been a tough time to win major titles in the sport with the players that were ahead of me. I’m proud of my achievements, my efforts and I’m looking forward to prolonged rest now,” Murray stated while announcing his retirement.
Subsequently, his countrywoman, Emma Raducanu, was queried about the tour’s changed atmosphere following Murray’s retirement and her astonishing response sent fans into a frenzy, prompting them to criticize the young talent on social media.
Emma Raducanu opines that Andy Murray’s retiral is “old news”
One fan took to X to criticize Raducanu’s ‘arrogant’ comments. They notably highlighted her attitude as a major factor behind the backlash she often receives, possibly reiterating her withdrawal from mixed doubles duty with Murray at Wimbledon this year. “Andy Murray was & always will be a giant in the tennis world & interviews like this really show her arrogance & why she’s disliked by many!!” the fan wrote.
Another fan rhetorically questioned why the former World No. 10 was “on a mission to be one of the most unlikeable British athletes of all time”. At the same time, one netizen urged Raducanu was “on a mission to make herself so dislikable.” One passionate fan claimed that the Briton “got a vein-poppin’ grudge against Judy Murray”. This comment stemmed from Murray’s mother, Judy, dropping a cryptic comment on X reading, “Yes astonishing” after the young talent pulled out of her mixed doubles showdown with Andy Murray.
For those unaware, Raducanu broke the internet at the SW19 after skipping her mixed doubles appearance with countryman Murray due to soreness in her right wrist. However, the Briton’s mother, Judy Murray, wasn’t pleased with the WTA star’s decision. She left the mysterious tweet as a reply to Raducanu thwarting her son’s adieu at the grass court Major, wherein their highly-anticipated partnership was awaited by many, following Murray’s early exit in the singles category.

Another fan, in the meanwhile, blatantly slammed the 2021 US Open champion saying, “Show a bit of fu**ing respect to the one man who made British Tennis relevant.” While these comments are flooding social media, Raducanu remains busy prepping ahead of her US Open campaign. She is slated to face Sofia Kenin in the event’s opening round on Tuesday, August 27.
