Is Rickie Fowler’s Second Baby Named After Nelly Korda?

Rickie Fowler would have preferred a better 2024, career-wise, that is. But when it comes to his personal life, he couldn’t have asked for more. The golfer and his wife, Allison Stokke, welcomed their second child, a daughter (once again!), this week. However, as the PGA Tour Pro announced the news on August 10, one can’t help but wonder if he named his second baby after one of the best female golfers in the world. Yes, we’re talking exactly about Nelly Korda!

Fowler shared a post on his Instagram handle announcing the news to his fans and the golfing community. “My Family!!” wrote the athlete, “Right where I’m supposed to be. Welcome to the crew Nellie.” The name sounds really similar to the current No. 1 in the Rolex rankings, doesn’t it?

Well, that’s just it. It’s just the names that sound similar and the golfer naming the child as ‘Nellie’ has nothing to do with the American Olympic star, Korda. But whether he would want his second baby to grow up and become a successful athlete on the greens like the American star. That, interestingly, he wouldn’t probably mind. Neither would we, wouldn’t we?!

Anyhow, the wonderful news of their baby girl’s birth came just four months after they announced it to the world. Back in April, Fowler, alongside his wife and first daughter Maya, had shared a joint Instagram post with a picture of the three with the caption, “Maya with shoes ready for her baby sister… We’re excited to be a foursome later this summer!”

The 35-year-old had divulged the due date soon after itself. He revealed it to be August 4 all the while disclosing his plans for the season; an appearance at the Open Championship and then time with his family for the birth of his child. And consequently, rumors of the 2024 major at Royal Troon being his final tournament of the season also started making the rounds.

Is Rickie Fowler playing any more events in 2024?
A fan page dedicated to the golfer, Rickie Fowler Tracker, reported back in July how the 2024 Open “very well could’ve been the last event of the season” for him. It also pointed out how the 6-time PGA Tour champ’s team stated the same while expressing doubt over him teeing off at the Wyndham Championship. Fast forward to August and he hasn’t teed it off at the Sedgefield Country Club, adding more base to the rumors.

Currently placed at No. 63 on the OWGR, Rickie Fowler, meanwhile, hasn’t had the best of seasons this year. Out of the 20 starts he made on the PGA Tour in the 2024 calendar, the golfer missed the cut a total of six times. His best finish, meanwhile, came at the RBC Heritage where the professional scored a 9-under par overall and clinched a top-20 placement on the scoreboard, at T18 no less.

One thing is for sure, the athlete won’t be taking part in the FedEx Cup playoffs that start in Memphis soon, courtesy of his placement outside top-70 in the standings. However, his playing at the Fall events is a completely different matter altogether. But if his family needs him beside them, then the athlete might take a break for the rest of the season. His fans would surely be expecting his decision.
