‘I Don’t Have It’: Rickie Fowler Suffers From Lack of Confidence Moments After Ending LIV Golf Rumors
In the last five years, Rickie Fowler had been fortunate to only win once on the PGA Tour at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic. After which, the 30-year-old pro’s form had been on a sharp decline as he tried to enter the winning circle again. The effect of his poor form could be seen in the 2024 season, as Fowler failed to make a single top-10 finish in the past seven months—a first in his career. That’s not all, The 6-time PGA Tour winner parted ways with two of his sponsors, Farmers Insurance and Rocket Mortgage, which sparked rumors that Fowler would soon join LIV Golf. Though he joined them back a few months later.
Many in the golf world have correlated the shift of numerous PGA Tour pros to LIV Golf with their declining form. The most recent name to add to the list is former world No. 3 Jon Rahm. Thus, one can see why rumors of Rickie Fowler joining LIV Golf gained much traction. But all the rumors were put to rest as Fowler revealed in a telephonic interview with Golfweek that he has “zero plans to go anywhere.” Despite loyalty to the PGA Tour, Fowler’s recent interview ahead of the Open Championship suggests that the rough couple of years has taken a toll on his confidence.
The six-time PGA Tour winner was paired with Justin Thomas against Max Homa and Gary Woodland for a practice match ahead of the 152nd Open Championship. However, the round did not end on a happy note for Rickie Fowler. The Rickie Fowler Legion, a fan community for the pro, posted a tweet on X sharing the dejected PGA Tour player after a poor performance. The 30-year-old had to accept that he was struggling even in the practice match. Fowler admitted, “I don’t have it at the moment,” acknowledging that he was of no help to JT and was only there “as a support system.”

The Murrieta native has made 12 appearances at the oldest major and only once has Rickie Fowler come closer to winning the event. This incredible performance of the 25-year-old was long established ten years ago, in 2014. Fowler then shot 69-69-68-67 to be 15 under 273 and runner-up on the leaderboard.
Since then, except once in 2019 (T6), Fowler has failed to card another top finish on the Open Championship’s leaderboard and consistently finishes outside the top-10. Moreover, coming to the links golf, the 6-time PGA Tour’s welcome has not been encouraging. Fowler played the Genesis Scottish Open as a way to familiarize himself with links golf before playing the Open.
However, he missed the cut after carding 73 and 71 in two rounds. With his dejected confidence and declining form, it would not be wrong to assume that Fowler may not win the 152nd Open. However, the 6-time PGA Tour winner may surprise everyone with his performance, given that he takes hold of it before starting the last major.
