Tim Henman Follows Chris Evert in Wimbledon Blunder as Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic’s Final Irks Tennis Fans
The 2024 Wimbledon Championships has been a forgettable tournament for the commentators. Over the course of this event, there have been major slip-ups in the commentary box, with renowned names like John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova, and Chris Evert, all involved. At a time when tennis broadcasting needs a serious uplift due to dwindling viewership, these errors have proved to be costly and fans haven’t spared it by slamming those involved on social media. Another major blunder occurred during the Wimbledon men’s singles final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, a day after Chris Evert was involved in a major slip-up.
Yesterday, Evert was on the commentary panel during the women’s singles final between Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova. However, she struggled to pronounce the name of Paolini correctly, calling her ‘Paolina’ and ‘Paolineeeee’ several times. This didn’t go down well with the fans, who took to social media to call out Evert for the poor execution. Tim Henman was involved in a similar goof-up today as he commentated for the men’s singles finals match.
The British legend made a host of mistakes as fans took to Twitter to slam him for the blunders. Like Evert, he struggled to pronounce the name of Alcaraz. Additionally, some of his views about Djokovic didn’t sit down well with fans. As a result, they were left frustrated and took to social media to slam Henman for the blunders.

Henman joined the likes of John McEnroe and Chris Fowler on the commentary panel for the men’s singles final. However, some of his thoughts on the likes of Djokovic and Alcaraz faced intense scrutiny. On one occasion, he said that Djokovic hits down-the-line shots the best. However, some fans thought that it was disrespectful to Nadal, who was a cut above the rest in this regard. One of the fans took to Twitter and wrote, “Tim Henman saying that Djokovic is the player who hits the DTL shot the best, my brother in christ Nadal didn’t torment the world with that shot for you to disrespect him like that.”

On the other hand, this wasn’t the only blunder from Henman’s end. The British commentator struggled to pronounce Alcaraz’s name, and this was spotted by a section of fans, who slammed him for the poor execution. One Twitter user didn’t get a good feeling due to this and said, “Tim Henman’s Anglo listhp pronunciation of Alcaraz (“Alcarathgsph”) is already sending my cringeometer.”
Along with Henman, Nick Kyrgios has also joined him on the commentator’s panel. However, they weren’t spared by an angry fan, who vented out their frustration after a host of blunders, saying, “Henman, Kyrgios & Castle. Has so much waffle ever been spouted by such middling talent.”
Meanwhile, with the British accent, the Henman brothers were accused of pronouncing Alcaraz’s name incorrectly on numerous occasions. One fan wrote, “Henman bothers to pronounce Alcaraz’s name correctly without hesitation.” Lastly, one of the Twitter users wasn’t impressed with the commentators for the men’s singles final. He took to social media to express frustration on this matter, making a long pause while taking the names.
