Emma Raducanu’s stunning net worth revelation as true cost of Andy Murray withdrawal emerges

Emma Raducanu left Andy Murray in the lurch at Wimbledon, but sports finance expert Dr Rob Wilson doesn't expect her to suffer financially as a result of the fallout

Despite leaving Andy Murray high and dry at Wimbledon, sports finance expert Dr Rob Wilson believes Emma Raducanu’s bank balance won’t take a hit. The US Open champion withdrew from her scheduled mixed doubles match with Murray at the London tournament, marking an abrupt end to Murray’s Wimbledon career.

Despite some disgruntlement among fans, commentators and fellow players, Dr Wilson doesn’t foresee any financial fallout for Raducanu. The British pair had the potential to create magic as two generations of tennis talent were set to shine on home turf, but it’s unlikely that the 21-year-old rising star will be short of opportunities.

“I don’t think you could describe what Raducanu did as a snub on Andy Murray, and she’ll lose revenue as a consequence of that,” Wilson shared with OLBG. “The reality was she was progressing well, in the singles it was a much better performance than we have seen in the last year or so.

“That obviously equates to more progression personally and the revenue benefits that come with that. Obviously, had she progressed with Murray there would have been some short-term benefits to that, perhaps with some additional endorsements, but long term I think it won’t have done any damage to her brand.”

In due course, Raducanu is tipped to become one of the UK’s richest tennis players, with a plethora of sponsorships and endorsements under her belt. Despite bowing out in the fourth round at Wimbledon, expert Wilson believes her pre-Wimbledon performance will stand her in good stead for the future, reports the Mirror.

“The fact she was going to play with him in the first place perhaps gave them both a bit of benefit but the reality is she won’t have lost out too much at all,” he said. “Her earnings last year were around £10million with tax of around £2million. Her net worth increased significantly as a result. If she performs well this season, I would expect she can double that amount with relative ease.”

Andy Murray, aged 37, also boasts impressive financial clout, with an estimated net worth of £79million. Although his days of earning from tennis matches may be waning, lucrative deals with brands such as Castore, Head and Under Armour are likely to keep his income robust.

Yet, it’s Raducanu who seems poised for a meteoric rise in earnings, especially once the commotion surrounding Wimbledon subsides. The young star, whose net worth hovers around £10million, is rumoured to be bypassing the Paris Olympics to focus on clinching her second US Open title later in the year, having already demonstrated her ability to compete with the top-tier players on the grass courts of SW19.
