Judy Murray issues statement after controversial Emma Raducanu post

Judy Murray appeared to take a shot at Raducanu after the 21-year-old pulled out of playing Wimbledon mixed doubles with Andy Murray.

Judy Murray says it is not true that she was shading Emma Raducanu after she withdrew from her mixed doubles match with Andy Murray, claiming it was all just “sarcasm.” On Saturday, it was announced that Raducanu and Murray would not play their scheduled first-round mixed doubles match after the 2021 US Open champion had to pull out due to wrist soreness. The news instantly came as a disappointment so many since it was supposed to be Murray’s last Wimbledon event as a pro player.

“Astonishing news that Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her mixed doubles match with Andy Murray. She’s citing soreness in her right wrist. It means Murray has played his last match at Wimbledon. Oh dear!” presenter Marcus Buckland wrote on X on Saturday.

Reacting to the post, Judy Murray wrote: “Yes, astonishing.”

After Judy Murray’s post started drawing attention and also landing her certain criticism because some weren’t happy that she was taking shots at Raducanu, she protected her posts on X.

Judy Murray breaks her silence after she was criticized over ‘calling out’ Raducanu
On Sunday, Judy Murray opened up her X account once again and issued a post in which she denied ever shading Raducanu.

“Not sure anyone understands sarcasm these days. Pretty sure the scheduling (4th match court 1 with a singles following day) will have played a major part in any decision making,” Judy Murray wrote.

At the start of Wimbledon, Murray withdrew from the singles event but appeared in the men’s doubles event – where he lost in the first round with his brother Jamie Murray. But despite pulling out of the singles event and losing early in men’s doubles, Murray was still hoping he could do something good in his farewell after Raducanu agreed to play mixed doubles with him.

In the end, it didn’t happen for Murray, who still hasn’t publicly said anything about Raducanu’s decision.
