I Could Have Secured More Grand Slams,” Tennis Icon Björn Borg Reveals His Departure from the Sport Due to Privacy Breaches

The Swedish tennis legend, Björn Borg has attained grandeur during his brief yet remarkable journey on the tennis court. With 11 singles Grand Slam titles under his name, the former tennis ace gained a huge fan base that always thought that he had the potential and hunger for more. Proving them wrong, the 66-year-old previously shocked the entire tennis community with his decision to move from the tennis court at the young age of 26.

 

 

Speaking of it, Borg has recently opened up about how he could have won more major titles if there had been security for the players.The Swedish tennis legend was there in India with his wife Patricia, as the couple witnessed their son, Leo Borg’s antics during the Chennai Open Challenger. During his visit, Björn Borg also talked about his controversial decision to put down his tennis racket at a young age as he lacked that exhilaration he once had on the court.

 

 

Speaking about the same, the former tennis ace was involved in a conversation titled ‘The Legends Hold Court’ with some of the top tennis players. The 11 singles Grand Slam champion revealed how, at one point, he got unenthusiastic about the sport. He further talked to his coach about the lack of exhilaration that he used to have during his illustrious tennis journey. His coach was quite surprised as he thought Borg was joking about it.

 

 

The 66-year-old also detailed the reason behind it as he said that he wanted privacy as an athlete. There used to be cameramen during his personal stays at hotels. Borg also said that they even got followed while going to the toilet. However, the former tennis player also believes that current-generation players now have security and their privacy is very much respected. So, if there had been security for the players of his generation, Borg said he would’ve continued to deliver more remarkable performances.

He added, “I was happy then. If I had continued to play, I could have won some more Grand Slams,” to suggest his supremacy on the ATP Tour. Many in the tennis community have also claimed that Borg was better than other tennis greats when it comes to performing on clay courts.
