“I blame nobody but me, I’ve been trying to figure out why I crossed that line” – When Chris Evert spoke on relationship with ex-husband Andy Mill
Chris Evert once candidly discussed the dissolution of her marriage to her ex-husband, former alpine ski racer Andy Mill. Evert took responsibility for their split, making an honest admission about falling in love with someone else.
Evert has been married three times, beginning with fellow tennis player John Lloyd in 1979. Following their divorce in 1987, the American tied the knot with Andy Mill in 1988, with whom she had three children over the course of their 18-year marriage.
Shortly after their split in 2006, Chris Evert began a relationship with former golfer Greg Norman, marrying him in 2008. Their relationship began on a sensitive note, as Norman was Mill’s “best friend” at the time and had ended his 25-year marriage to his wife Laura Andrassy to be with the former World No. 1. However, their marriage lasted only 18 months, ending in 2009.
In an interview with Woman’s Day magazine in 2010, Evert reflected on the end of her marriage with Andy Mill, admitting that she “blamed” herself for its dissolution. The 18-time Grand Slam champion also opened up about her introspective efforts to understand why she had fallen in love with another man while still being married to Mill.
“I blame nobody but me for leaving my marriage [to Mill]. But I have been trying to figure out why I crossed that line. What was it in me that I allowed myself to fall in love with another man when I was in a marriage?” she said.
Chris Evert also spoke about her decision to stay single since her divorce from Greg Norman, expressing that she was in the “best possible place” as she enjoyed time with her three sons and her sister.
“I’m in the best place possible for me – to be living alone this summer with access to my kids and spending time with my sister in such a beautiful setting. This is the first time in many years that I’ve been alone. It’s a time for self reflection, reading a lot of books, doing yoga and hiking,” she added.
Chris Evert: “I miss my family time with Andy Mill and the kids; that was 20 years of history, probably the best years of my life”
In the same interview, Chris Evert opened up about what she missed most about her marriage to Andy Mill, describing their nearly two decades together as the “best years” of her life.
“I miss my family time with Andy and the kids. That was 20 years of history. Probably the best years of my life,” Chris Evert said.
When asked about Greg Norman, the former World No. 1 admitted that she missed his parents and disclosed that she had always enjoyed a great relationship with them.
“I also really miss Greg’s parents. The best part about him are his parents. They are great people. They’re very down to earth and level headed. I always got along great with them,” she added.
Evert also shared that she was surprised at her divorce from Norman, revealing that she “had no idea it was coming” and attributing it to their differing priorities and lifestyles.
