Brooke Henderson is going to her third summer Olympic Games after qualifying based on her Official World Golf Ranking of 14. Henderson joins Alena Sharp of Hamilton, Ont. as Team Canada’s two female golfers. The 26-year-old from Smiths Falls, Ont., competed in both the Tokyo 2020 and Rio 2016 Olympics and returns to the games after a seventh place finish in 2016 and a 29th finish in 2020.
Henderson started playing golf when she was just three years old because she wanted to join her father and sister on the course, her bio on the Team Canada website reads. Later, she started dreaming of going professional but by 14 it was when the goal was clearer and she won her first pro event.
She has won 13 times on the LGPA tour, the most out of all Canadians. She won the 2016 Women’s PGA Championship and the 2022 Evian Championship, making her the only Canadian golfer to win multiple titles.
It’s not the only memorable moment Henderson has earned, her victory at the 2016 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship made her the first woman to win a golf major since 1968. At the time she was 18 years and 10 months making her the second-youngest ever to win that title.
The Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games start July 26.
