Chris Evert once said she was overwhelmed with love after seeing her newborn son, Alexander James. The American and her ex-husband, former Alpine skier Andy Mill, have three sons together. Evert has been married three times. Her first husband was former British No. 1 tennis player John Lloyd, with whom she was together from 1979 to 1987. In 1988, she tied the knot with Andy Mill, but they divorced in 2006, with the 18-time Grand Slam champion mentioning that menopause played a significant role in their split.
After her separation from Mill, with whom she shares three sons-Alexander, Nicholas, and Colton-Evert married her ex-husband’s best friend, former World No. 1 golfer Greg Norman. However, their marriage was short-lived, lasting only 15 months from 2008 to 2009. Even though her marriage with Andy Mill didn’t last, Chris Evert maintained a great relationship with him and their sons. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times in 1992, just four months after her eldest son Alexander was born, Evert expressed deep admiration for her baby boy.
“You have this little person, this little life in your arms and [Alexander] he has these big blue eyes and you don’t know where in the world he got them and he just melts my heart. I never want to go anywhere without him. I’m his slave,” she said.
Chris Evert: “I was thinking about playing tennis…Then I had Alexander and all those feelings were gone”
When asked about her feelings regarding tennis during the final stages of her pregnancy, Chris Evert admitted she felt a desire to play herself after seeing her colleagues like Martina Navratilova and Jimmy Connors excel.
However, she emphasized that those concerns faded away the moment she held her baby for the first time.
“I was lying in bed, watching Jimmy [Connors] do great in the Open, watching Martina do great, and it gave me a lot of incentive to play again. I was thinking about playing team tennis. I was thinking about lining up some exhibitions,” Evert said (The Los Angeles Times).
“Then, I had Alex. I held the baby in the hospital and after the first minute, all those feelings were gone,” she added.
Alexander Mill, aged 32, is a former skateboarder and competes as an Invictus athlete. Nicholas, 30, hosts a popular fishing podcast while Colton, 28, their youngest sibling, prefers to keep his life private.
