Elvis Presley’s granddaughter Riley Keough tackles ghosts of the past in Lisa Marie’s book
Riley Keough, Elvis Presley’s granddaughter, is grappling with family tragedies and legal issues while striving to preserve her late mother Lisa Marie’s legacy. The 35-year-old actress has is reportedly “living with ghosts” while delving into her mother Lisa Marie’s old tapes and notebooks in preparation for her forthcoming autobiography, set to be released on October 15.
It’s reported that a commemoration will take place at Graceland-the Presley family estate where Riley’s mother, grandfather, and brother Benjamin Keough were interred. An insider familiar with the book revealed that the actress spent “hundreds of hours of Lisa’s thoughts and dreams” while working on the memoir. The source explained that Riley aims to present the yet-to-be-titled posthumous book in an “accurate and compassionate way.”
Described by the source as “a super busy actress, producer and mum”, Riley has not only had to immerse herself in her mother’s thoughts, but she’s also had to decide how to encapsulate them in the book, per Page Six. The insider explained: “She’s not only had to listen to her mom’s thoughts, but has to decide how to package that into this book … It’s a Herculean effort. She’s going to have a lot of input on how people perceive Lisa’s legacy forever. That’s how difficult this is.”
This comes after Graceland was nearly auctioned off last month due to a reported unpaid $3.8 million loan, court filings reveal. Presley’s daughter, Riley, now the sole heir, took legal action to safeguard the property, claiming she was being ensnared in a foreclosure scheme.
Additionally, Riley has been striving to maintain amicable ties with her grandmother, Priscilla Presley, who had allegedly challenged the “authenticity and validity” of Lisa Marie’s will. To resolve the dispute, Riley consented to pay Priscilla a settlement of $1 million plus $400,000 in legal costs, securing her position as the estate’s exclusive proprietor.
The two reconciled at this year’s 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, with sources indicating that they have “really turned the page” and are bonding over their shared loss. Sources close to the pair report: “They really turned the page and are on good terms right now. It was a heartbreaking few months for them.”
“But they are both happy they are able to now lean on each other and mourn Lisa Marie together,” an insider told The Messenger. “They don’t want to discuss the legal battle any further and are happy they are able to move on. Riley feels less stressed and is grateful the tension between her and Priscilla has subsided.”
