Chris Evert Confirms Martina Navratilova’s Big-Hearted Move With an Emotional Shoutout To Her Best Rival

Iga Swiatek‘s massive win over Roland Garros becomes a reason to celebrate for many. The Pole recently made the whole tennis world bow down to her early success by securing a win over Jasmine Paolini. While tennis legends like Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova had different parts to play in the glorious event, they grabbed the opportunity to extend mutual respect.

The spotlight shone brightly at the Pole as she stepped in to take center stage at Phillipe-Chatrier. While it was the former pro-Martina Navratilova who did the honor of presenting the trophy, she remembered Chris Evert’s historic win, making her step forward with words of respect.

“So, I presented the Roland Garros winner’s trophy last year; @Martina was asked to present this year. Since it was the 50th Anniversary of my first win, she asked me if I would join her in presenting…Generous and thoughtful, that’s my friend Martina,” Evert wrote in a recent post on X.

Chris Evert’s legendary legacy is decorated with seven Roland Garros titles. While her first win came back on the same day 50 years ago, Navratilova thought that it would have been best if Evert was to do the honor. While the former pro was busy dropping and holding the mic as a commentator for Eurosport, her presence was no doubt missed during the ceremony.

Navratilova, who has two French Open titles in her portfolio, reminded the tennis world of a trait that makes victories a lot more special than they are. However, besides regarding the former co-player, Chris Evert also predicted a bright future for Iga Swiatek on clay.

Chris Evert happened to be quite active in this year’s Roland Garros. While she was pursuing a gig as a commentator for Eurosport, she indulged in a conversation about the final showdown between Iga Swiatek and Jasmine Paolini. The Pole secured her fourth French Open win today. While Chris Evert stands with a remarkable 7 wins in the same event, she agrees to the fact that Iga’s dominance makes her nervous.

Chris Evert’s involvement in the current clay court season made it even more special. While many disregarded her biased opinions, her legacy still waives the banners.
