Chris Evert destroys ‘snapping’ claim about Elena Rybakina after Kazakh’s RG presser

Evert comes to Rybakina's defense after the Kazakh's interraction with the media

Chris Evert has come to Elena Rybakina’s defense after the Kazakh’s French Open press conference as the American tennis icon finds it funny that someone thought the current world No. 4 was “snapping at reporters.”

Following a 6-2 6-3 win over Greetje Minnen in the French Open first round, 24-year-old Rybakina seemingly got fed up with certain questions and appeared to suggest to the reporters that they should find something new and interesting to ask her.

“The questions are quite the same, so I don’t know what to say anymore,” Rybakina told the media.

When asked what it requires to win a Grand Slam, the 2022 Wimbledon champion felt like she answered that question many times before.

“It’s quite basic. You need to work hard; do all the things usually you don’t want to do. I mean, simple question, simple answers. So, guys, something else?” Rybakina said.

When asked about her creamy-colored Yonex dress specially designed for the French Open, Rybakina said it was Yonex who did all the work.

“These colors, I didn’t choose. It was the brand who chose for me so… some other questions?” Rybakina said.

Rybakina’s reactions during the presser drew mixed reactions as some felt the Kazakh’s actions were justifiable while some thought the 24-year-old was disrespectful toward the media.

On Instagram, footage posted from Rybakina’s press conference was titled: “Elena Rybakina snaps at reporters after win.”

In the comment section of the post, Evert wrote: “What???? you call this snappy? omg, you guys are reaching…(laughing emojis).”

Meanwhile, Rybakina plays Arantxa Rus in her next French Open match. Interestingly, this will be their second French Open meeting and also their first meeting since the two met at Roland Garros in 2022. When they met the last time, Rybakina won 6-1 5-7 6-2.

But going into the match, the head-to-head stands at 1-1 as Rus previously beat Rybakina in their first meeting in the 2018 US Open qualifying.
