After a Massive $8 Million Divorce Settlement, Chris Evert’s Ex-husband Delivered a Poignant Family Statement in 2007 – ‘Would Have Paid Twice’
Chris Evert, the American tennis veteran, has had a very successful tennis career. While on the court, she made the right decisions almost every time, as she ended her glorious career with 18 Grand Slam titles. However, in contrast, her personal life witnessed some rough patches. She went through three failed marriages, and in the end, decided to be on her own, supporting her three sons.
One of her decisions in her personal life that shocked most of her fans was her divorce with Andy Mill. She walked out of an 18-year-long marriage to be with Mill’s best friend, Greg Norman. The step shattered their family of five and the man who had a happy family lost everything. Here’s what he said after Evert settled her divorce with him.
Mill revealed his feelings after his divorce with Chris Evert
The heartbroken former Alpine ski racer, who received millions in settlement, opened up about his divorce in 2007. While speaking about the 18-time Grand Slam champion’s decision, he said, “Regarding the money and the settlement, I would have paid twice that to keep my family in place.”
Thereafter, he added, “My main concern is just trying to get everything on level ground as far as my family is concerned. The most important thing for me is my family and my kids, and just trying to keep them grounded.”
As part of the settlement, Evert gave Mill cash and securities worth 8.7 million dollar and their 5 million dollar holiday home in the ritzy Colorado snow resort town of Aspen. However, the custody of their children went to Evert. Though Mill was granted visitation rights, he lost the privilege of seeing his sons Alexander, Nicholas and Colton every day.
Further, after Evert tied the knot with the former Australian golfer, tensions started to build up. Norman and Evert broke ties in the year 2009, just 15 months after their grand wedding ceremony.
Evert’s other failed relationships
The first person the former World no.1 dated was Jimmy Connors. She and the eight-time Grand Slam champion made their relationship public in the early 70s and they instantly became the fans’ favorite. They performed a couple’s sweep at the 1974 Wimbledon and were dominating the ATP and WTA. However, things went south when Connors wanted to go ahead with an unexpected pregnancy and Evert felt otherwise.
After Connors, Evert tried to find her soulmate in the British tennis professional John Lloyd. She exchanged vows with him in the year 1979. Though the difference in their on-court achievements and popularity started causing problems. They eventually reached a point where there was no hope for their marriage, and it eventually ended in divorce in 1987.
