‘Burst Into Tears’ – Chris Evert Reminisces Her Mother’s Sacrifices as She Felt Bad for Not Mentioning Her Enough

Chris Evert, the winner of 18 Grand Slam singles titles, shed tears while discussing her mother in a podcast with Debbie Millman. She said that her father was her lifelong tennis coach and that anytime she gave an interview, she would inevitably bring up the subject of her father’s coaching.

In the podcast, the legendary American reminisced about the numerous times that she has discussed her father’s contribution to her growth while failing to mention her mother.

Chris Evert has warm memories of her mother
The tennis star cherishes her mother as she said she was the glue to the family, holding everyone together. Unlike her father, who, according to her, was the boss of the family, Evert’s mother was very sweet and calm. She regretted about not mentioning her mother’s sacrifices enough during her previous interviews.

The ‘Ice Maiden’ pointed out by saying, “I think I did an interview two weeks ago, and talked the whole time about my dad, and I looked at a picture of my mother on the wall, and I just burst into tears.”

Chris Evert, one of the top players of all time, told Debbie Millman that she was very much at ease since her mother accompanied her to tournaments. She explains that her mother, Colette, was always very relaxed because she didn’t know much about the game.

She further added that “And you know, we would go to museums, and we would go sightseeing in Paris, and we, you know, I would never have done that with my dad.” Also, her mom kept her well balanced and calmer, she mentioned.

Evert’s mother exemplified the highest standards of character and morality
Martina Navratilova was Chris Evert’s long-time rival and a close friend. She remarked that Evert’s mother set a fantastic example for all tennis parents. She was kind and generous to everyone she met, and that everybody adored her because she never lost her nerves.

She attended every event her kids played in for decades. Her gentle demeanor earned her the respect of both the organizers and the other parents and participants. In fact, her mother would often cheer for her rivals during the game, Evert said. She was a devout Catholic and dedicated mother who would do everything for her children.
