Brooke Henderson was in tears as fans chanted ‘O Canada’ after her historic LPGA win

It was a historic day in Canadian golf, as Brooke Henderson emerged victorious in the CP Women’s Open. The 20-year-old Smiths Fall, Ontario native became just the first Canadian to win the tournament since 1973, and for fans in attendance at the event in Regina, there was much to cheer for.

As for Henderson, she was clearly affected by the moment as well. She was in tears as she spoke about how much this meant for her, particularly in the wake of her grandfather’s passing, and Canadian fans in the crowd sang ‘O Canada’ as she walked off the field.

This marks Henderson’s seventh LPGA Tour victory, which puts her second to Sandra Post’s eight wins all-time among Canadians. Especially considering her age, that’s a remarkable accomplishment — it certainly bears watching to see what else lies ahead of her.
