Facing extreme disappointment from her parents following the divorce from John Lloyd in 1987, Chris accepted an invitation to Aspen from Martina Navratilova. At a New Year’s Eve party in the famed ski spot, she met Olympic skier Andy Mill.

They spent the first day of the New Year on the slopes, skiing and holding hands. The new couple exchanged vows in July 1988. The sporty pair arranged their lives to accommodate their lifestyles, splitting time between Aspen and Boca Raton, Florida. Their first child, Alexander “Alex” Mill, was born in 1991, followed by a brother in 1994, Nicholas “Nicky” Mill. They completed their family in 1996 with the birth of a third son, Colton Mill.

The tennis star’s upbringing was rigorous; there was no room for grey hues in the Evert household’s black-and-white structure. She explained the approach she took with the progeny: “I listened to them; let them talk me into letting them stay up an extra hour at bedtime. I probably could have been stricter, but I’d tell them, ‘just do your best.’ As a result, they are very kind and loving.” Chris filed for divorce from her husband of 18 years on November 13, 2006; their kids were between the ages of 10 and 15. The former couple claimed it was a “mutual” decision in a joint statement.
