Chris Evert’s exploits on the tennis court are the stuff of legend. During the 1970s and 1980s, Chris Evert cemented her reputation as the most dominant women’s tennis player. Evert married alpine ski racer Andy Mill in 1988, but cracks in the marriage surfaced when Evert fell in love with Australian golfer Greg Norman.

According to Chris Evert, it’s impossible to control love

Despite having three sons with Andy Mill, Evert fell for Norman. There was much public outcry regarding Evert’s decision to leave Mill. However, in the interview, Evert said, “I got to a point where there was no turning back.”

She went on to say that “love is a funny thing” despite being “aware of the consequences and the hurt and everything”. In a candid moment, she stated, “You can’t control full-blown falling in love. You can’t control it.”

Norman also added to the discussion by saying that it was the world’s misconception to think that the “whole thing happened so fast.” He ended by saying, “maybe it didn’t happen so fast.”

The aftermath of Evert leaving Mill for Norman
Evert’s marriage with Mill came to an end in 2006 as the couple cited irreconcilable differences. While the divorce allowed Evert to be with Norman, the man she fell in love with, it came at a significant cost.

For starters, she had to part with several vehicles, a $4 million Aspen house, and a whopping $7 million worth of cash and securities. Mill was the recipient of these assets, and he bid farewell to his former wife and her partner by wishing them a happy life.
